Target Species: brown trout, rainbow
trout, brook trout (char) and king (chinook) salmon.
New
Zealand, especially the South Island, is described by many as the best trout destination
in the world. Not only does it produce unrealistic numbers of trophy trout (fish
in excess of 10 lb are regularly captured), the rivers and lakes lie in the most
scenic landscapes you will find yourself in with a fly rod in hand. This makes
for an interesting and epic journey over terrain that is approximately 80 million
years old.
Trout were introduced to several rivers in the mid 1800’s
by British colonialists and with conditions so perfect for salmonids, they have
since populated almost every piece of water that is connected to the surrounding
ocean. Snow capped alpine peaks and cool weather ensures low water temperatures
year round, and along with rich aquatic ecosystems, provide trout with the perfect
environment to grow HUGE!
Fish
in the 4-6 lb range are considered small and make up the bulk of your catch. It
is no wonder then that the most experienced fly fishermen in the world keep on
returning to NZ for the sole purpose of targeting trophy trout.
Now Tourette Fishing offers affordable trips to New Zealand’s
South Island using local knowledge. Allan Kircher, an experienced fly fishing
and hunting guide, will take Tourette Fishing clients into the NZ backcountry
where few, if any, humans have cast a fly. His extensive knowledge of the best
spots in the country comes from 40 years of exploring by hiking and camping in
the most remote spots the island has to offer.
Today, he casually refers to the backcountry as his adventure
playground. Along with countless double figure rainbows and browns under his belt,
he has successfully targeted salmon on fly. Besides fishing, Allan is also an
accomplished hunter and provides ethical hunting for tahr, chamois, red stag,
fallow buck and wild boar.
Allan is a gifted fly fisher and guide, who is kind, patient,
with great people skills and most importantly, passionate about what he does.
He is a qualified Mountain Safety Council Outdoor Leader and a member of both
the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association and New Zealand Professional
Hunting Guides Association. As with all Tourette Fishing guides, he was carefully
selected to offer Tourette Fishing clients the best fishing experience possible.
