![]() For the angler, Zimbabwe can be roughly divided into two major fishing destinations, these being the Zambezi Valley, and the Eastern Highlands, which form the border between Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Zambezi: Both Lake Kariba and the Middle Zambezi can be fished from Zimbabwe. The Zambezi River forms the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. All angling on the Middle Zambezi takes place in and around National Parks, the world-renowned Mana Pools National Park being one of them. Eastern Highlands: Few frontiers are more spectacular than that between Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe rise steeply from the flat low veld in the east. Inyanga, the Vumba (mountain of drizzle) and Chimanimani form the mountainous border between the eastern flank of Zimbabwe and the central western regions of Mozambique. This makes it and excellent transition point between the Zambezi/Kariba and the indigo waters of the Mozambique coast. The Eastern Highlands are renowned for the many crystal clear mountain streams and high altitude lakes. The combination of altitude and cold temperature make the waters in these areas ideal for trout fishing. Trout are abundant in the streams and lakes of Inyanga, the Inyanga Downs and Troutbeck. Good fishing is had all year round. For a unique African fly-fishing experience the eastern highlands should not be missed. |
