Yellowfin Tuna

Tourette Fishing targets other species of tuna along the Southern Africa coast, these include the longfin, bigeye and dogtooth tuna.

Description
This is a large fish with a deep body built for strength, speed, and stamina. The fins can be folded close to the body or tucked into grooves. This refinement, along with the fish's powerful 'red' muscles, not only makes for swift sprints, but also for persistently high speeds over long distances.
Colour
The brilliant colours of the yellowfin tuna shimmering in the blue depths below a boat are what fishing dreams are made of. The back of the fish is a metallic blue. It has yellow sides and silvery white belly. On the belly there is often numerous pale narrow bars. The dorsal and anal fins are yellow.
Size
The yellowfin tuna can attain a length of 120 cm and a weight of 100 kg in Southern African waters.
Habitat
It enjoys a worldwide distribution and can be found in all oceans between 40°N and 40°S. It prefers the ocean surface but can be found at depths down to 200 m.
Abundance
They move in massive shoals and can often be seen churning up large areas of the ocean in pursuit of surface prey. When large shoals such as these are located, fishing is fast and energy sapping.
Angling
With Tourette Fishing, the yellowfin is most commonly targeted with artificial lures and feathers. In specific locations the yellowfin is targeted with fly tackle.
