General
description and habitat:
Like the Nembwe this large mouth bream species is
found on the Upper Zambezi and Okavango Rivers.
Less striking than the nembwe, it does not reach
the same size with a fish of 3 – 4 lbs considered
a trophy. The head and body of both sexes display
distinctive red spots. It too has bass like tendencies
and feeds on small fish such as robbers and barbs.
Unlike the nembwe, even adult fish prefer quite
back waters and lagoons with dense vegetations
Angling Tackle and Tactics:
Fly:
As per nembwe, but lighter tackle is best suited
to the ‘quieter’ waters fished when
targeting this species. This being said, 5/6 weight
rods and flies in the #6 - #1 category are best.
Zonker strip bait fish, and wooly buggers with exaggerated
marabou tails in natural and dark colours are very
productive. Flies tied with a brass or tungsten
bead or cone for added weight often out perform
those without.
Comprehensive tackle lists will be sent out on

Conventional:
Standard bass tackle with a selection of jigs and
